Grammar B2 - Cohesion Techniques

Cohesion refers to the use of various techniques to link sentences and ideas within a text so that it flows logically and smoothly. One key technique for cohesion is the use of pronouns referencing, which helps to avoid repetition and maintain the clarity of the text.

Pronouns can refer to:

People: he, she, they, etc.

Example: "Mary loves animals. She has three dogs."

Things or objects: it, this, that, these, etc.

Example: "I bought a new book. It is about history."

Ideas or situations: this, that, one, etc.

Example: "I think the meeting was successful. That is why we should celebrate."

Using pronouns helps reduce repetition and makes writing more concise. For example, instead of saying "John went to the store. John bought milk. John came back home," we can use pronouns: "John went to the store. He bought milk. He came back home."
