Grammar A2 - Modals for advice ( you should )

Modals for advice are used to give suggestions or recommend actions to others. The most common modals used for giving advice are:

Should: This is the most commonly used modal for advice. It suggests something that is a good idea, or generally recommended.

Example: You should study for the test if you want to pass. (It’s a good idea to study.)

Ought to: This is similar to "should," but is used less frequently in modern English. It is slightly more formal.

Example: You ought to go to the doctor if you’re feeling sick. (It’s advisable to see a doctor.)

Had better: This is stronger than "should" or "ought to," and implies a consequence if the advice is not followed.

Example: You had better bring an umbrella; it’s going to rain. (If you don’t bring an umbrella, you might get wet.)
