Grammar A2 - Adjectives (Comparative and Superlative)

Comparative Adjectives:

We use comparative adjectives to compare two things or people. We generally add -er to short adjectives (1 syllable) or use more for longer adjectives (2 syllables or more).

Example (1 syllable adjective): fast → faster

Example (2+ syllables adjective): beautiful → more beautiful

We often use than in comparative sentences.

John is taller than Tim.

Superlative Adjectives:

We use superlative adjectives to describe the extreme or highest degree of something (e.g., the biggest, the fastest, etc.).

Example (1 syllable adjective): fast → fastest

Example (2+ syllables adjective): beautiful → most beautiful

We often use the in superlative sentences.

John is the tallest in the class.

Superlative:This is the biggest house in the neighborhood.
